A Complete Guide to Business Signage in Phuket

Banners, flags, window graphics, posters and directional signs: which materials suit which places, how to design for distance, and how to plan for Phuket's weather.

Your sign is the first thing most customers see, often before they know your name. In Phuket that sign has a hard job: it competes with dozens of others on the same street, it faces strong sun all year and heavy rain for much of it, and it often has to work in two languages. This guide explains the main types of business signage, which materials suit which places, and how to plan signs that people can actually read.

Start with three zones

Most businesses need signage in three places, each with a different job:

Three zones, three jobs: outdoor signs stop passers-by, window graphics explain what you sell, indoor signs guide and sell once people are inside.
  • Outdoor: stop people passing by and tell them what you are.
  • Window: explain what you sell, when you're open and why to come in.
  • Indoor: guide people once they're inside, and sell the next thing.

Plan all three together, so your logo, colours and messages match from the street to the counter.

Indoor or outdoor: what changes

Outdoor Indoor
Main challenge Sun, rain, wind, distance Lighting, glare, crowded walls
Typical products Vinyl banners, flags, corrugated plastic signs Roll-up banners, posters, foam board signs, acrylic table signs, wall decals
Design priority Few words, big letters, strong contrast Clear hierarchy, readable up close
Fixing Eyelets, pole pockets, H-stakes Stands, easels, adhesive, tabletop bases

If a sign will be outside, tell us when you order or request a quote. The right material matters more than the design for how long it looks good.

Vinyl banners

Vinyl banners are the workhorse of temporary and semi-permanent signage: "Now open", promotions, events, construction hoardings and facades waiting for permanent signs. We print them on standard vinyl, which suits most indoor and outdoor uses.

Finishing options: hemmed edges with eyelets for tying or hooking, pole pockets for hanging from a pole, or cut to size with no finishing.

Roll-up banners and flags

Roll-up and X-banners are portable signs for lobbies, events, trade shows and pop-ups. They set up in minutes and pack into a bag. You can order the print with a stand and bag, or a replacement print for a stand you already have.

Feather and teardrop flags add movement that the eye catches from far away: roadside, car parks, beach clubs and event entrances. We print the flag fabric; if you also need a pole and base, ask us in a quote request.

Good to knowRoll-up banners, flags, standees and boards are delivered within Phuket only. If you're outside Phuket, contact us before ordering. Flags are made to order and usually take 7–10 days.

Window graphics

A shop window is advertising space you already pay for. Window decals come in several types, and choosing the right one matters:

  • Outside the glass: the decal faces the street directly.
  • Inside the glass, reading through: printed to be read from outside while applied inside, which keeps it away from rain and window cleaning.
  • One-way vision (perforated): shows a full image from the outside while people inside can still see out. Great for large glass fronts and offices.
  • Wall decals for interiors: logos, menus, opening hours and feature walls.

Decals can be printed on white or clear film, and cut to a rectangle, a circle or the outline of your design. We install window decals: add Decal Installation to your order, priced by size and area. For very large jobs, we arrange a measurement visit first.

Posters and indoor signs

  • Posters on photo satin or photo gloss paper, plus backlit film for light boxes.
  • Foam board signs are light, rigid and look clean on an easel: welcome signs, price boards, event schedules. Choose a rectangle, arch or half-arch shape.
  • Acrylic table signs for reception desks, tables and counters: Wi-Fi details, QR codes, menus and wedding signage.

Directional and temporary signs

Directional signs guide people who are already looking for you: car park entrances, villa driveways, event routes, show-home viewings. Corrugated plastic signs on an H-stake are lightweight, weather-resistant and quick to put in the ground. Indoors, foam boards and wall decals do the same job.

Keep directional signs to one message each: an arrow, a name and, if needed, a distance.

Design for distance

A sign that can't be read is decoration. A few rules that hold for almost every sign:

  • Letter height grows with distance. A common sign-industry rule of thumb is about 2.5 cm of letter height for every 3 metres of viewing distance. If people read your sign from across the road, your main words need to be big.
  • Fewer words. Someone walking or riding past has a few seconds. Aim for a name, one line about what you do, and one action.
  • Strong contrast. Dark on light or light on dark. Avoid text on top of busy photos.
  • Two languages, clearly separated. If you use Thai and English, give each its own line rather than mixing them.
  • Test at size. Print a section of your design at 100% on paper, tape it up, and look at it from where your customers will be.

For large signs, images can be lower resolution than for small print: at least 100 dpi at full size, and very large signs can be 72 dpi. Our artwork guide covers file preparation in detail.

Weather and placement in Phuket

  • Rain: the rainy season brings heavy, frequent downpours. Choose vinyl or corrugated plastic for anything exposed, and consider applying window decals inside the glass.
  • Wind: near the coast, on rooftops and on open fences, wind loads a solid banner like a sail. Fix it at every eyelet, and for very exposed spots tell us about the site before you order.
  • Sun: strong sun is hard on any printed surface over time. If a sign faces full sun all day, tell us, and plan to refresh temporary signs regularly.
  • Fixing points: plan where every eyelet, cable tie or stake will go before you order the size.

Choosing the size

Measure the actual space before ordering: the width and height available on the facade, fence or wall, and any obstacles such as air-conditioning units, cables, trees or a neighbour's sign. Then decide on the viewing distance and size your main words for it. If a product page doesn't offer the size you need, or the space is unusual, request a quote with the measurements and a photo.

A note on signboard tax

Thailand has a local signboard tax (ภาษีป้าย) on signs that show a business name, brand or advertising. It is assessed by your local administration, and the amount depends on the sign's size and the languages used. Check with your local municipality what applies to your signs before you install permanent signage.

When to request a custom quote

Order directly online when your sign matches a product, size and material on the website. Request a quote when:

  • you need a custom size or shape;
  • you need a very large window installation or an unusual surface;
  • you need several different signs for one site and want them priced together;
  • you aren't sure which material suits the location.

Send the measurements, a photo of the space, whether it's indoors or outdoors, the quantity and your deadline. We reply within 24 hours on business days.
